The Gathering 2013

For the last 200 years Ireland has been noted for the many emigrants it has, for one reason or another, sent abroad. Over 70 million people worldwide claim Irish ancestry. Throughout 2013, however, Ireland is opening its arms to hundreds of thousands of friends and family from all over the world, calling them home to gatherings in villages, towns and cities.

The Gathering is not a single event but provides an umbrella framework for varied activities throughout the year. There are clan gatherings, festivals, special sporting events, music and concerts taking place all across the country, all year long. If you have Irish connections you are welcome home. We are showcasing and sharing the very best of Irish culture, tradition, business, sport, fighting spirit and the uniquely Irish sense of fun.

The Gathering has two broad objectives: to examine ways in which the Republic can develop more strategic relationships with its diaspora; and to provide a platform for those living overseas who claim Irish ancestry to contribute to the Republic’s economic recovery.

That is really neat. I have always wanted to visit Ireland, but as far as I know, I am not Irish. Half Italian and half English.
You are welcome anyway.
Irish blood lasts a long time. Why not come along and enjoy the fun.
