Trump denounces anti-Semitism.

Earlier in the week vandals damaged as many as 150 headstones at a Jewish cemetery in suburban St. Louis, leaving the region's Jewish community shaken and anxious. Investigators have not yet determined if it was a hate crime or vandalism, but the impact on the Jewish community is the same.

Vice President Mike Pence visited the cemetery. He said that there is “no place in America for hatred or acts of prejudice or violence or anti-Semitism.” He prayed at the graves and helped clean up some of the damage following the desecration.

Two Muslim-American activists launched a crowd-funding campaign on Tuesday to raise money to repair the historic cemetery. Within two hours, the fundraising campaign had already surpassed its goal of $20,000. “Through this campaign, we hope to send a united message from the Jewish and Muslim communities that there is no place for this type of hate, desecration, and violence in America.

Politicians and other religious leaders expressed support for the cemetery and the St. Louis region's Jewish community. Two Muslim organizations spoke out against the vandalism. "We encourage our members to reach out to their local synagogue and Jewish neighbors to express their solidarity and support and to generously support the rebuilding of the recently desecrated cemetery."

During a visit to the National Museum of African American History and Culture on Tuesday morning, Trump himself denounced the recent threats against the Jewish community, calling them, " horrible and ... painful and a very sad reminder of the work that still must be done to root out hate and prejudice and evil."

Shame he doesn't understand that Muslims think so too.

Same hatred, different victims and I speak as one with Jewish ancestry and painful memories as you know..........
but not said with his usual vigor

and Bannon who is his chief advisor is alt-right
and his campaign encouraged white supremacist groups who supported him

and oh yes - Muslims
they want to destroy "our America"

80 years ago the same thing was said about the Jews
refugees fleeing Hitlers Germany were turned away

170 years ago it was said about Catholics
churches and convents were burned down
Irish fleeing the famine were disparaged

the virus is ever present - all it needs is a little encouragement
and Trump encouraged it!
now he regrets it
why didn't he speak out against it
why the image of a wall
why a ban on "those people who want to destroy our way of life" and equate it with those fleeing the terrors of Isis and war?
why those words?

and then so surprised when those words enkindle the virus of Hate
Trump really could have done better. I suspect that his daughter was on his case, but his heart clearly isn't in it.

Mike Pence modeled appropriate behavior.
I am very afraid for this country. There really are no words. This morning while waiting for the subway I was conversing with a Muslim woman. We had a nice conversation. Do I care that she is wearing a hijab? OF COURSE NOT! What is wrong with people?!!!
