We here in the northern latitudes are enjoying a lovely autumn this year. Autumn is a time of change, a time of letting go and dying. It's a metaphor for those of us who, like myself, with gratitude, are in the autumn of life.

We live now in a society that is ever-restless, always looking for more mountains to climb, seeking happiness through more and more possessions. Why can't we take pleasure in what we have, in the simple things of life?

I ask myself, what would those touched by recent hurricanes and volcanos and deprivation consider important in their lives at this time?
