I was walking in a hospital today with a friend whose child was a patient there - nothing very serious TG. But I was very much aware of the suffering so many have to endure unbeknownst to us.

Hasn't the history of humankind been a history of suffering. Our history books and modern media tell of victories and conquests but little enough about  the horrific sufferings  of millions of human beings  -  those wounded, maimed, blown to pieces, massacred, tortured, humiliated. The great Pyramids were built on the suffering of slaves; the Americas on genocide and famine; the Industrial Revolution on workers in factories; two world wars on young loyal men and women. Aids/HIV causes intolerable suffering for millions. Billions die of poverty and misery. More than 300 million people of all ages suffer from depression. And what about the terrible atrocities being committed in the Middle East!

In the past even the Church added to the sufferings of many by saying it was the will of God and a punishment for sin and could well continue into the next life by the burning fires of hell!
