For those who read

As one who seldom re-reads even books on my shelf, I like this:

"When you re-read a classic, you do not see more in the book than you did before; you see more in you than there was before".

(Clifton Fadiman, US intellectual and author, 1904-99)

I remember Clifton Fadiman
he was on a tv show ( yes, there used to be intellectual tv)
and wrote for a magazine i read
he was a genial man

i love re-reading
probably because as a child i lived way out in the country with no library
i had to re-read the books i had - they became friends
What kind of stuff does he write? Does he cover religion or solid stuff at all? I just found the quote in something a friend put me on to.
he was mainly an editor but so witty he was widely quoted - i think i must have read his comments in the columns his friends wrote
there was a magazine in the 60's Saturday Review that was part of my life

i remember him and fellow author wits on a radio program when i was a child which then went on early tv
( yes i was an intellectual child apparently lol)

Wikipedia has an interesting article about him
