Imbolc, the coming of Spring.

Tugtar “Imbolc” ar an bhféile ársa Cheilteach a cheiliúrtar timpeall tús Feabhra. Ceiliúrann an fhéile na rudaí a fhásann san earrach tar éis iad a bheith dorcha rúnda faoin talamh i rith an gheimhridh. Among the Celts the beginning of Spring was celebrated as Imbolc, a word that appears to derive from 'i mbolg' meaning in the belly, a time when sheep began to lactate and the grass began to grow. It was a time to celebrate Bríd, the Celtic Goddess of inspiration, healing, and poetry. When Ireland was Christianised in the 5th century, the feast of St. Brigid was substituted and was celebrated on 1st. February. Ach fiú amháin inniú leantar le cuid de shean traidisiúin Imbolc! I mbliana (18ú Feabhra), mar shampla, baileoidh Gaeilgeoirí inspioráideacha chun a gcuid smaointe agus a gcuid tionscadal a roinnt lena chéile agus leis an lucht féachana san Ionad Cultúrtha i mBaile Bhúirne, Co. Chorcaí. Taispeánann an tionól an obair a mbíonn ar bun ag daoine tar éis iad a bheith ag saothrú go crua uirthi b'fhéidir gan aitheantas leathan poiblí.
