Wexford Summer Festival

posterYesterday Wexford celebrated its annual John Barry Maritime Heritage with a Summer Festival on the quays.
Wexford maritime culture was showcased with programmed events including a rowing regatta of traditional sailing cots to modern fibre glass rowing boats, sea kayaking, canoeing, sailing and raft races, all on view from the Quay marina. A 26000 square foot exhibition centre housed over 100 handcrafted model boats, interactive media exhibitions of local maritime activites (John Barry, Irish Naval Service, Irish Whale and Dolphin Group and the Wexford Lifeboat). The harbour itself was a visual array of boats and the RNLI, Coastguard, Irish Whale and Dolphin Group and Met Eireann were also on the quay providing information and demostrations to the public on marine safety.

Maritime art culture was showcased in various art galleries around the town and on the quay. Musical and dance entertainment lasted the entire weekend with traditional Irish music and local dance groups. Local food producers  showcased their fresh produce.

The family orientated festival included childrens' arts and crafts activites, pirate treasure and scavenger hunts, dancing and outdoor fun (rock climbing wall, rope climbing wall, sumo wrestling, gladiators etc). Something for everyone - and sunshine all day long! What more would one want.
