For Book Worms

library2Our new €6m library was officially opened yesterday. The three storey, ultra modern library boasts 26 public access PCs, two Apple macs and has wi-fi throughout. It has 70,000 books and magazines spread throughout, as well as CDs, large print books, talking books, graphic novels and DVDS.There is new microfilm and scanning technology available for customers and more advanced self service technology also. On the top floor there is a heritage studies and education studies section. I'm amazed to find that there's no coffee facility included.

People can access the library’s 24/7 service online where they can order materials from all collections, extend the loan period on items, book a library pc in advance, or study a foreign language online. Many of these services were not available in the old library.

I'm not sure I like the combination of the mod library, the mid-19th cent church, and the medieval wall and turret between them. (click)

During the  opening yesterday a man brought in a book he found among his own collection that was taken out on loan in 1937. They tell me he owes the library 7,000 old pennies!

How wonderful. My city is closing libraries in an effort to save money. When people complained they said it was that or fire-houses! Glad to see that there are places moving firmly in the other direction...
Yes. And it is very central for schools and business.
The contrast is a bit jarring. (And does that absurd column have any purpose, other than as an eyesore?) But it sounds like a lovely library. Enjoy!
The column does not look so stupid close up. It carries the words WEXFORD LIBRARY up along its height. But you're right it is out of place.
They may have intended it to echo the verticality of the adjacent steeple. Ah, well.
Its good that there are Libraries.
New libraries = :)
