Sore Throats and 'Flu.

crossed candlesDo you, like me, often suffer from colds and 'flu at this time of year? Many people do. How do you cope? Take garlic tea, red onion and raw honey, chicken soup, alka-seltzer, gargle, take a steamy shower, sleep with an extra pillow, or simply blow your nose and stay in bed?

I'm reminded of this because today is the feast of St. Blaise who was a physician and bishop in late 4th century Armenia (Turkey). While not a great deal is known about him he is known as a healer of sore throats, colds and 'flu.

The Catholic Church has the tradition of blessing throats with crossed candles on 3rd February with the prayer: “Through the intercession of St. Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from ailments of the throat and from every other evil. In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”.

I cope by complaining...
Not very effective I'm afraid!
True...and I can only complain to the dogs, so it goes nowhere.
Throat losanges.
Thank goodness, I got neither cold nor flu this season.
So far.
Hot lemonade!
Since I was little I have had the juice of a lemon in hot water with a spoonful of honey. I don't know whether it really does any good, but it's very soothing.
Do you get a flu jab?

San Biaggio is also the patron of public speakers- go figure, as our American cousins say! :o)
Interesting. I didn't know that but, as you say, it figures.
