Acceptance and Welcome

LampedusaReflecting on today's Reading from Luke 17:11-19 about the healing of people who were ostracized by everyone because they were lepers, I am struck by the Lord's specific reference to the immigrant from Samaria among them who was the only one of those healed who returned to give thanks.

I am thinking of those many people seeking refuge and peace across national borders in that part of the world today. Especially at this time
I am thinking of the many poor people who have recently drowned near Lampedusa. May the good Lord  give them eternal peace and rest.

Well, you know me and Luke.

Yeshu and the Samaritan woman at the well- I find it very disturbing that so many Christians seem to be repulsed by the idea of the Prophet actually passing the time of day not only with (whisper it) a woman, but an outcast.

For me, it points out his perfect humanity.

And of what sect was the good man who helped he who had fallen among thieves?...............
